Welcome to Malta Fishing Trips

Today we created the Malta Fishing Trips website and over the next few weeks we will start to customise this site until it eventually becomes fully functional.

Malta Fishing Trips is brought to you by the Malta Fishing Forum who have now been up and running since the 21st April 2006. With over 1,500 members to date, the Malta Fishing Forum can proudly say that it has become the number one resource concerning fishing in Malta, advice and tips for both fishing and marine related issues such as the best boats and engines, along with providing discounts from various local companies in the fishing and marine sectors to it's members. The Malta Fishing Forum discussion forum is where it all happens, whilst the website provides a general overview and introduction. Be sure to check them out, whether you are locally based in Malta, planning to visit and do some fishing, or you're just curious to know what kind of fishing we get up to!

For the 2010 season, Malta Fishing Trips will be running a Trojan F-26 Flybridge Sportfishing Boat - 'The Gaffer'. Length Overall 26'2" - Beam 10'6" she has been re-powered by a Steyr 246HP High Power Marine turbo diesel engine.  Cruising @ 19Knts, top speed 25Knts, Range 170 nautical miles. She has been fitted with teak both on the deck and within the cockpit, sleeps 4, has a standup head and shower, Fridge/freezer, and 2 burner cooker.  The perfect weekender for fishing and cruising. Sporting a West Systems Epoxy barrier on the hull that was re-applied in 2009 after being inspected by a marine surveyor as part of The Gaffer's regular on going maintenance, we are proud to announce that this vessel is in tip top shape.

In addition this year The Gaffer has undergone an extensive refit that includes: Complete re-wiring (AC/DC) of the boat utilising top quality marine rated wire from Ancor Marine and heat-shrink on all connectors, and a Blue Sea Systems 16 way DC distribution panel. In addition her engine has been serviced by a Steyr Authorised mechanic and her injectors recalibrated at the Steyr factory. All cabin joinery has been replaced and is brand new along with the cabin upholstery. The Gaffer will also be sporting the very latest in Marine Electronics from Raymarine - C90 Widecreen complete with DSM300 fishfinder module and a 1KW Airmar 260 transducer with redundant Lowarnce Global Map GPS unit on flybridge, Raymarine Autopilot with redundant remote autopilot command unit on the flybridge, ICOM Long Range VHF with redundant VHF & antenna on the flybridge control station. The Gaffer is all about redundancy which is extremely important when fishing offshore in coastal waters up to 40nm, so each and every item of equipment is replicated for redunancy purposes.  The Gaffer is also equipped with the latest saftey apparel, including six life jackets, one life ring, offshore flares, fire extinguishers and a comprehensive first-aid box.  In addition to the above she has a bulkhead mounted Racor Water Separating Fuel Filter in addition to the standard engine fuel filter along with the latest safety devices.

With her 10'6" beam The Gaffer has been rigged up to deploy up to NINE trolling rods with the use of her large outriggers with the possibility of adding a tenth rod this season via a centre rigger mounted on the deck of the flybridge. She has the latest fishing equipment, Shimano Tiagra A reels, TLD25's, Senator 113 and 114's matched to various 30-50lbs standup trolling rods. The Tiagra A 30WLRS is matched to a Shimano 50-80lbs rod for those big Tuna (Catch & Release). The Gaffer is also equipment for coastal bottom fishing as well as Extreme Deep Bottom fishing with Electric Reels, or if you prefer, how about some jigging for Amberjack or Dentex.

The Gaffer's skipper has over 35 years experience fishing in Maltese waters and knows all the right spots depending on the type of fishing that interests you - meaning less time trying to find the fish and more time catching them.

Stay tuned for more info......
